Heading into the Holidays

As we get into the fall and winter seasons two things happen to us that prevents us from staying organized: school and school related activities get into full swing and the busiest holiday seasons are right in front of us.

This is a great time to challenge yourself to a game – STAYING ORGANIZED.
Lets take the area of children and school first.

  • With each child set up a schedule for them to follow after school. They need to participate in the organization of their rooms so it frees up your time.
The schedule should include their chores and which day they should do the chores, study time, TV or computer time.
  • During each year store the favorite artwork in an artist portfolio (one for each child. You can also get 8 ½ x 11 size to keep stories and other school projects in. Put their names on them along with the grade and their ages. The best ones to get are Itoya. They come with different amounts of pages and different sizes. Amazon has a good selection.

Staying organized for each of the three major holidays is next. Take time to plan. One of the most important areas is staying in budget and not getting carried away.

  • At the beginning of each month pull the bins out for that holiday and review your items before buying anything new. If things look worn out donate or toss and then figure if you need something new to replace it.
  • Schedule time with yourself to decorate (4-5 hours). It is your time so an appointment for organizing and decorating helps get it done so no stress develops.
  • Start your Christmas list on October 1. For some who store presents during the year, it is a good time to pull them out, put names on them, and target people who you still need to find presents for. Put that list in your car so when you are out, you can reference it and not over buy for one individual. Also BIG consideration: you won’t set yourself up for a huge bill at the end of the Christmas season. Stay on budget.

Happy Fall Everyone! It’s a great time to do some decluttering and regifting, when you’re starting to stock up for the winter for your family and friends.
