What to Do with the Kids Stuff: Tips From Your Orange County Organizer

Orange County Organizer

It is the beginning of the year in Orange County and if you look back to 2013 or even the start of the school semester in September the kids have accumulated an overwhelming amount of “stuff”.  If you are struggling with this and you do not want to waste time searching through the clutter to find something you really need, lets simplify your life by organizing the “stuff” you need to keep for the kids.

Shelves can be the place where you put everything out of sight.  They can be more helpful if you use plastic boxes – the small shoe-box type  box is great for all the small little stuff they collect.

Example:  Small toys, items from birthday parties (that they want to keep for a little while).  A medium size is good for socks, t-shirts, and shorts.  Another great tool is the hanging shoe rack.  A lot of shoes for the kids, socks, tights, hair bows, and you can use them for sorting art supplies, school supplies, etc.  Since it’s on the back side of the door it is out of sight.

Using small plastic or cardboard boxes in dresser drawers to organize things.  If a shoe box fits  it is a great divider for drawers of t-shirts, tops, shorts, underwear.

Keepsake Items:  Store each child’s items in a large plastic container with their name on it.  Try and put dates on the school items so you will remember when they were made and if there was a special occasion attached to them.  Looking through their special boxes always gives them so much pleasure.  One of my clients in Irvine, who has five children,  has a weekend each year with each child.  They take the box with them, relive the memories, and then unclutter the box together.  They understand that they can’t save everything.  You don’t have to be a Professional Organizer to get organized!

Unlike other professional home organizers, the Orange County professional organizers at Nipomo Organizing Solutions try to use the organizing materials that you have on hand before recommending the purchase of new containers.
