Pre-Spring Shredding Season

To shred, you say? But we aren’t doing tricks on a skateboard! Nope, we’re organizing by getting rid of old files and confidential information. It’s recommended that you keep tax documents for 7 years, but what do you do after that? You get rid of them! However, throwing away taxes, bills, credit card offers, and other financial information is bad. Any person going through your trash can commit identity fraud easily if you aren’t careful. All they need is a single social security number, a name, an address or birth date.

So how do you protect your documents when you need to get rid of them?

You shred them! Shredding is one of the best ways to protect yourself from identity theft. Some people go through garbage to try and find credit card offers, social security numbers, names and addresses. That’s why we shred sensitive papers. It’s incredibly difficult to put together a document once it’s been ripped to pieces, especially when its mixed together with dozens or hundreds of others. That’s why great events like this exist:

Waste Management has proudly partnered with the City of Mission Viejo to sponsor FREE Quarterly Shredding Events in 2019. The first quarterly event has passed, but the second one will take place on:

  • Saturday, April 6th at Mission Viejo High School at 25025 Chrisanta Drive in Mission Viejo at 9:00 to 11 am

What do you need to bring?

  1. Proof of residency in Mission Viejo will be required
  2. Disposal of up to 10 banker size files boxes per family
Mobile shredding unit will be on-site
  3. Event ends when the truck capacity has been reached
  4. Please ensure all documents and boxes are free of binders, paper clips, plastic sleeves, and metal butterfly lips. Items not accepted include CD’s, credit cards, three-ring binders, wire dividers, newspapers, magazines, and spiral notebooks.

Two additional shred events to take place in the Summer and Fall of 2019.

Come by and save yourself the hassle of worrying over sensitive documents!
